Training is not just a repetition of technical and tactics, it goes far beyond that. Training should be similar to the game proposed by the team's game model and its individual and group characteristics".

Brazilian National Futsal Coach.

Even though the Futsal Modality is widespread and practiced in Brazil, we still have a great need for theoretical research about the game variables, tactical understanding and, mainly, the concepts that guide our work methodology. Currently, there’s an absence of specialized literature with focus on the technical/tactical aspect of our modality, which, in my opinion, delays our growth and the development of a patterned methodology for a safe teaching/developing.

Being considered a dynamic modality with a high degree of unpredictability, Futsal has attributes of its own and a wide combination of physical and motor statistics, it’s rich with specific gestures and focus on performance at a high speed, as well as the need for individual development in multiple positions of the game. With the difficulties researching and fundaments, our sport rests upon mechanistic techniques that neglects the best of what we have to offer, the technical gestures, the ability to control the ball.

FUTSAL TRAINING DRILLS

As coach, it is your job to give your team the skills and technique to be great team and great individual players.

Motivation to play and develop futsal

Development of players

  • The characteristics of the game, such as fewer players, a smaller pitch, the special futsal ball and an unlimited number
    of substitutions
  •  Increases contact with the ball and shots on goal
  • Limits time and space to control and pass the ball
  • Favours rapid decision making
  • Favours a dynamic playing system and the rotation of positions
  • Involves and motivates all players
  • Facilitates accurate passing

Accessibility

  •  Little infrastructure is required
  •  It is possible to use existing facilities (e.g. schools, universities, sports centres, etc.)
  •  It is easy to start playing because not many Players are needed
  •  It is accessible in regions and communities where it is difficult to play 11-a-side football due to the climate or because of the lack of space (e.g. large cities, isolated communities)
  •  It is accessible to women and children (e.g. in Muslim countries) and the elderly

New opportunities

  •  New careers for players, coaches, referees,
    administrators, etc.
  • New opportunities for member associations to host and qualify for international competitions
  • New opportunities for cooperation with NGOs,
    government authorities, private sponsors, etc.

A complement to football

  • A potential fi rst step to 11-a-side of football, producing high-quality players and simplifying the coaching and educational development of many children, using fewer resources
  • It expands the football base: futsal attracts more players and fans
  • Diversifi cation of the activities of a football association and extension of activities, both indoors and outdoors
  • The only version of indoor football approved by FIFA

What is Futsal?

It was created in Uruguay by Juan Carlos Ceriani in 1930, the same year Uruguay won the first World Cup, before a full rule book was developed three years later. The rules remained open to interpretation until the 1960s when the game was standardised and rapidly began to increase in popularity all over the world.
